HISTORY - THE LONG PADDOCK

rr

The Long Paddock
The Long Paddock covers the stretch of the Cobb Highway between Moama and Wilcannia, telling the story of its drovers, its history and its people.

From as early as the 1840s a large section of what is known as the Cobb Highway was recognised as the best route for the movement of stock from the Gulf Country to the Victorian markets. The section of this highway stretching from Echuca/Moama to Wilcannia has been selected for a major tourism initiative - The Long Paddock.

The Cobb Highway has a long association with the history of the region. The project is a way to commemorate the history of the area and the significance of droving, pastoralism, transport and settlement of the region. In short, the Cobb Highway route has strong historical links and stories to be told.

The project is expected to be developed progressively over several years and to link with heritage, artistic and natural attractions along its length. The evolving nature of the project's interpretive installations will make it a dynamic project.
