Improved fishing direct result of Classic!
Following the success of the 2006 Fishing Classic and the Committee’s commitment to the re-stocking of local waters with fish, 27,800 fingerlings were released into local waters in June 2006.
The fingerlings were made up of 20,400 Golden Perch and 7,400 Murray Cod. They were released into the Gulpa Creek, Edward River and Murray River at Thistle Bend, Picnic Point and at Porters Plain Road.
Over the past six years, proceeds from the Mathoura Fishing Classic, together with NSW Fisheries funding, have gone towards re-stocking the rivers with over 150,000 fingerlings. Improved fishing in the area is a direct result of this re-stocking.
The 2006 event was a great success with 720 entries, perfect weather and some great fishing! The event ran smoothly and the Committee has received great feedback regarding the organisation and running of the event. The successful category winners were very pleased of the range and type of prizes offered. |
